Saint Cirq Lapopie on GR651 (variant of GR65): One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France
The GR651 is a variant of the famous GR65 along a peaceful valley dug by the Célé River (a tributary of the Lot River). The footpath crosses many authentic villages which seem to be there for centuries. One of the favorite village among the French is saint Cirq Lapopie, perched on a rock overlooking the Lot River.
The village includes 13 historic monuments. During the Middle Age there were 3 families, "owners" of the village and consequently several mansions and castles were built in this small place.
These half-timbered houses built between the 13th and 16th centuries. Their roof is very specific.

In the streets, the covered arcades shelter traditional handicraft workshops or souvenir boutique as well as restaurants.
Down the village you will find a watermill, a dam, a port a lock are the witness of the flourishing period of fluvial trade.
